- When you are placing your baby down instead of placing your baby on the floor, place your baby on a chair. This will make your baby try to get out of the chair by standing on his feet which he is used to by now. And this will motivate him to take first steps.
- Always make it a point to place your baby down in standing position. On a firm surface rather than putting them down on their bum in a sitting position. This will also motivate your baby to try and take the next step forward.
- You can have a line-up of furniture or clear the path along the wall of your house without any obstacles so that your baby can hold on to the furniture or the wall and start moving along the path. This helps immensely to help your baby to walk.
- Some babies may struggle to sit down. They will seek help by calling out to you or crying. When they do this ensure that you are helping your baby sit down on the floor by bending his knees gently rather than lifting them up in your arms. This will help your baby practice sitting down, squatting and also bending his knees.
- Baby is sitting down comfortably and is calling out to you too to carry them. Try and make them stand instead. When they call on to you, you can also extend this by making an and take support of a wall or a furniture.

It can be a juice cup with his favourite lemon juice that he would want to reach out to have. Or his teddy bear that he uses to pacify himself while he goes to sleep. Make sure the item is interesting so that your baby is motivated enough to put the extra effort.

- You can also take your baby for a walk in the park and by holding your baby’s wrist your baby can take steps to move around. Make sure that your baby wears comfortable and flexible shoes.
- There are shoes that make noise or give light when your baby takes steps in them. The light and the noise encourage your baby to take many steps. Note that this can be distracting for other people if you are going to spend a long time in one area. Especially religious places or libraries where silence is preferred.
- Encourage your baby. Make their attempt to walk fun. Your spouse and you can sit a short distance and encourage your baby to walk up to you. Parents should encourage their baby to develop curiosity to get up on twos. One way to develop encouragement is to put attractive toys around the baby. This will promote curiosity in the baby and might even get her up on her twos and you will be helping your baby to walk.

1. Bow Legs

Some babies like to walk on their tiptoes when they start to walk on their twos. This is very normal and should need any type of pediatric visit. Babies walk in such a way until the age of 3. They will forget about this habit themselves.
Another name for this condition is pigeon toes where the toes somewhat point towards one another. Depending on the severity of the condition, different methods are considered.
Sometimes, this condition is minor. As a result, this condition vanishes as the age of the baby progresses. Other times, it stays but it is not as bad. Proper shoes can help cope with the condition. In rare cases, this condition is developed by birth and does not fix by itself. There is a choice of getting it fixed with surgery.
This condition refers to the position of the toes facing away from each other. Usually, this is fixed by itself and does not require medical attention.

- On your enthusiasm to ensure that your baby walks soon don’t overdo it or push your baby to walk before their muscles are able to support them. This discourages your baby and puts additional stress on yourself and your baby.
- Arrange your house in such a way that there is enough space for your baby to try and walk around. Wobbly furniture needs to be removed and free open spaces are encouraged.
- You need not crowd your baby with too many walking tools such as a baby Walker, stand up bench or other aids that promise to help your baby to walk. Let the process happen naturally with a little bit of encouragement and teaching from your side.
- Walking such as bowed legs or walking on toes will get rectified on its own and you don’t need to worry too much about it. However, it is advisable to bring these topics with your paediatrician for more accurate guidance.
- Ensure that your house is clean and neat so that your baby can be on barefoot inside the house. Your baby will have better grip and be more comfortable trying to walk around if they are left barefoot. Also dress them up comfortably that they do not have any loose hanging material on them that will pose a tripping and falling hazard.
- If a child has a funny walking pattern to start with there is nothing to feel ashamed of. The initial importance that your child will give is to balance themselves and try to work. So, it might look very crude but in time all these would get corrected and elegant walking styles will evolve.
